FAQs
Find answers to common questions about the Streaming Server and its application in your workflow.
Colorfront’s advanced Streaming Server appliance offers a solution for professional remote video and audio monitoring with secure, reference-quality and low latency viewing experience that is suitable for critical QC or client approval, and supports a range of display options including: Apple’s XDR display, OLED TVs, professional HDR reference monitors or even emissive cinema walls.
The remote streaming technology relies on various components that facilitate the deployment of a wide range of workflows and configurations. These key building blocks include:
- Streaming sources, such as the Streaming Server.
- The Stream Manager, which offers a user-friendly interface for session management and invitations.
- Streaming Player applications, designed to view the reference-quality output.
- A gateway, which transmits SRT streams to multiple destinations. Users can leverage Colorfront’s high-security, high- performance Gateway or opt for direct streaming through a P2P setup.
The appliance works in real-time with HD, 2K & 4K, and stereo3D content, in rec709 SDR or HDR with Dolby Vision, and uses SRT (secure reliable transport protocol) to deliver pristine quality, low-latency live video, plus multi-channel audio, over the public internet to multiple remote clients concurrently. Forensic nexguard watermarking and 256-bit AES encryption are used to ensure content remains secure and protected.
The Streaming Server can support up to 20 viewers and a bitrate limit up to 200 Mbps per channel
Colorfronts Streaming Server is TPN Gold Certified and offers a safe and secure remote streaming solution using the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Protocol and 256-bit AES encryption. This ensures that content is protected even when transmitted over the public internet. To further enhance system safety and ensure studio-level security, there are additional measures one can take which are listed in the user manual

Streaming technology encompasses a wide range of resolutions and formats, including HD, UHD, or 4K, with color encodings such as RGB 444 or YUV 420, alongside variable bitrates that can range from low to very high. These critical settings determine the stream’s overall quality and require precise adjustment on the server side. It is important to note that compatibility with these settings varies across playback devices; for instance, AppleTV may not support UHD with RGB 444 encoding.
When a Streaming Server is shipped, it is set up and ready to stream with the latest software installed. The Server will also be added to the Stream Manager along with specific users selected by the customer who will have access to manage the server. Once the Streaming Server is in the hands of the client, they will simply need to rack the unit, connect cables and power up the system.
The Streaming Server works hand in hand with the Colorfront Stream Manager and Streaming Player.
Having two or more Streaming Servers allows users to scale up their streaming capabilities, allowing more streaming channels available to suit any studio or facilities needs. Users can stream simultaneously from as many Streamer Servers as they have.
The Colorfront Streaming Server application and server hardware are available from Colorfont's authorized business resellers. Colorfront does not sell the Streaming Server application and hardware. Please see our list of Streaming Server resellers here.
